Don't let them measure things off even- with the coal camps and the area toward Wildcat, Appalachia comes out about in the middle.

Why would you bus 500 kids when you could bus half that many? Doesn't make sense, what gets me with this whole consolidation issue is the economics. The people of Appalachia continue to scream that the people in Big Stone and Wise are taking away their community. Folks, look around Big Stone and Wise while not great economically at least have something, if Appalachia had what Big Stone and Wise did the school in no way would be in danger of closing down. It's an internal problem, when your biggest revenue economically in the town was an illegal gambling ring you don't have much going for you. It's something the townspeople of Appalachia should have addressed years ago, had they done so they wouldn't be in this current situation.

Same numbers, you have to get the kids from the camps and Blackwood, what is left, and Josephine. "2 miles" has been the board's argument the whole time they talkied about using the old schools. [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img] School location has nothing to do with Appy's problem as a town, does it?

My idea: let Norton enter the county's consolidation plans and merge with BSG. Let Appy folks wallow in their own demise, whining and complaining til the end. Wise Co. can let them compete with the middle schools of the area. Appy's happy - they've got their high school - and the rest of us are happy as we move forward into the 21st century.

Totall agree PVFAN, Appy is a ghost town. Why would you bus 80% of the kids from BSG to Appy?
ANd again in the paper, all of Appy's complaining was about football. "I wont sit next to people from Big Stone" at any sporting event, one person said.
You know, I work in Appy, and I like the people I with, but that crap is ridiculous.

The problem is these people are stuck in the 70's and 80's PV and Appy kids don't hate eachother anymore and high school is nothing like it use to be.PV and Appy kids work together and hang out together all the time. The older people and parents need to realize it's 2008 not the hay days of the 80's

So you think JJK and Powell Valley are in no danger of closing? What happenned to consolidation?

The place were the Flee market was before starting down Indian creek mnt would be a good spot for Kelly/Wise. Alot of land for a school and sports.
